[Elena wakes up early as she always does. She doesn't recognize the room she's in, but she has a vague sense that this is where she's supposed to be right now. So, she doesn't panic or start trying to find her parents or Jeremy. They'll come for her eventually, she's sure. And besides, Mommy always said that if she was ever lost to not panic. Instead, she just hops out of bed and starts looking for her diary. When she can't find it, she settles for an empty journal she finds after pawing around through the things in her room.]

[She lays on her bed, writing away for a while until she starts to get hungry for some breakfast. But before she heads to the mess hall, she's looking for Racetrack. The first place she thinks to look, is naturally Racetrack's room. She scampers off, barefoot and still in her PJs with her new diary and knocks impatiently and loudly on her door.]

Racetrack, wake up!

[Elena can be found all over the Barge. Usually she's sitting and keeping to herself with just her journal - even if she's decided to just plop down in a hallway - writing away and humming a made-up song. Sometimes she's drawing in her journal for parts of her stories because she's pretty certain she's going to write a lot of kid's books because she's such a great "drawerer" on top of being a writer. Sometimes she's just exploring and wandering - though still with her journal. She doesn't let it out of her sight ever and she won't let you hold it either. She's a little more wary of the adults than she is the other kids (you aren't supposed to talk to strangers, after all), but she still has a smile for everyone regardless.]

[Everyone she meets seems amazed. Chromie has decided to be proud of her ability to talk since it is so amazing. She beams.]

[Elena is just going to go on and give her some pets then.]

This is so cool. Jeremy's never gonna believe me when I tell him!

[Hooray! Chromie stays still so as not to scratch the human with her little cone horns.]

Why wouldn't he believe you?

Dragons don't exist. [Then she thinks about that for a second.] Well, where I'm from, I mean. You're obviously here.

[Durr.]

Dragons are only in stories where I'm from.

[Chromie's eyes go wide.]

That's terrible. What happened to them?

Nothing. They were never existed to begin with.

But we have dinosaurs! Do you know what those are?

Yes! They are just animals, though. Perhaps with time they will evolve into dragons!

Well, I uh...

[She blushes a little because oops. She gave the wrong impression.]

The dinosaurs are extinct now. They died a long, long, long, long time ago. Before people were even around.

Oh.

[Chromie looks sad.]

Perhaps the dragons are operating in secret. An orderly world is not safe without dragons.

[Elena doesn't think so, but she smiles and lies anyway because Chromie looks so sad.]

I bet that's what they're doing. We're just not ready to know they're there yet.

[Chromie nods. Yes C:]

Maybe I'll find them when I'm grown up.
