you won't be sad forever

[Elena had been on her way to check-in with Racetrack as a courtesy to show she's still not eating people despite how easily she could rip most anybody on this ship apart right now when she comes across an empty and blank room where Racetrack's should be.]

[That complicates things. Not on an emotional level - Elena really doesn't care - but on a tactical one. Dean's probably going to be on her ass like no other now. But better to keep up appearances of making a small effort to this little screwed up community than to try and cover it up and hope no one notices.]

For anyone that knew her or would care to know, Racetrack is gone.

[Elena is angry, she decides. Not at Dean, but at herself. She shouldn't have been that sloppy to get caught. Snatch. Eat. Erase. That's what Damon taught her. But there's no erase. So, she's had to improvise and it was bad and sloppy. She should've known better.]

[One of the punching bags in the gym is being subject to her wrath. The cut on her leg is now just a thin line, the scrapes on her hands and knees are shrinking scabs, nearly gone already. To anyone who doesn't know, she's just a girl who's mad about getting hurt. In a way, she is. But mostly, she's trying to regain her focus.]

[She's patient. She knows her real prey. She just needs to be smarter, to be better. She's not going to repeat mistakes. She's not going to be Damon or Stefan.]

[By the time she's exhausted herself, she's calm and she's focused again. She doesn't worry about her previous mistake. She won't do it again. Even if she could, she knows Dean will be watching her now. Mal, too. That's too many sets of eyes on her as it is. But, she can remind herself now that if anything, this has worked to her advantage. It makes her seem vulnerable even if it doesn't remove her as a threat entirely. But it does make her seem far weaker and more impulsive and vulnerable than she actually is. She can use that. Let him write her off.]

[She leaves the gym for her room with a tired, but still fairly bright smile.]
